Biography
Prior to joining Janelia Jenny held dual roles in biotech and academia. As a consultant for Enspire Bio, she designed and performed imaging-based drug screens for mitophagy-related diseases. As a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Orian Shirihai MD/PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles she studied how mitochondrial subpopulations mechanistically contribute to the onset of obesity and SARS-CoV2 infections. In between projects, she worked in the Metabolism theme microscopy core facility providing technical assistance in imaging and image analysis. Jenny also received her PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular, and Structural Biology from UCLA under the co-supervision of Marc Liesa PhD and Orian Shirihai MD/PhD. There she characterized how mitochondrial architecture controls lipid utilization in pancreatic beta cell, liver, and kidney models. In this work she applied confocal and STED microscopy to study mitochondrial dynamics.
Jenny is a research specialist in the Integrative Imaging team, her role in the Light Microscopy facility is to help maintain instruments, provide training and technical assistance for imaging and image analysis.
During her free time, she enjoys drawing, eating, hiking, and traveling. Occasionally she makes stickers under the name KinosDumplings.
