The Janelia-Meyerhoff Undergraduate Summer Program is a 10-week paid summer program for science-loving Scholars who want to participate in cutting edge research. Participants must be actively enrolled as a rising sophomore, rising junior and rising senior as a Meyerhoff Scholar from University of Maryland Baltimore County, Millennium Scholar from Penn State University, Chancellor’s Science Scholar University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Karsh STEM Scholar at Howard University, PATHS Scholar at University of California San Diego or SEED Scholar at University of California Berkeley to conduct research in a Janelia lab over the summer.

Janelia-Meyerhoff undergraduate students are dedicated future scientists, engineers, computational scientists, physician scientists, and mathematicians who are interested in exploring:

  • Behavioral & Systems Neuroscience
  • Cellular & Molecular Neuroscience
  • Cell and Tissue Biology
  • Physiology
  • Evolution & Genetics
  • Computer Vision and Machine Learning
  • Instrumentation & Computational Tool Development
  • Neuronal Cell Biology
  • Optical Physics & Imaging
  • Structural Biology & Biochemistry
  • Theory & Computational Neuroscience

This program provides an outstanding research experience and opportunities to discuss and present scientific work in an environment that is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students will receive a stipend of $6,000 for the 10-week period and a travel fellowship to a national meeting to present their summer research project.

In addition to the stipend, the program separately also covers living expenses, such as housing, food, and travel to and from Janelia.
