NeuronBridge: Game-changing software for Drosophila Neuroscience Research

In the world of neuroscience, particularly in Drosophila studies, researchers face a significant challenge in matching neuronal structures across different imaging modalities. NeuronBridge is here to address this challenge by providing a user-friendly web application designed to facilitate searching for neurons across large datasets.

Created with accessibility and ease-of-use for wet-lab biologists in mind, NeuronBridge offers a simple interface accessible through any web browser. You can log in using Google account credentials or create a NeuronBridge account to begin exploring.

Once logged in, you can search for specific neurons or GAL4 driver lines of interest. NeuronBridge then returns results in a clear, paginated format, allowing you to browse through potential matches effortlessly. You can delve deeper into the data, examining 3D representations of EM neuron reconstructions and LM driver lines to verify potential matches.

NeuronBridge is already making waves in the neuroscience community, with hundreds of researchers around the world utilizing its capabilities to enhance their studies. By filling a critical gap in the Drosophila research workflow, NeuronBridge is poised to become an essential tool for neuroscience research. As part of Janelia’s open science mission, the app is available here: http://neuronbridge.janelia.org, and the code and repositories are described in the publication: https://doi.org/10.1186/s12859-024-05732-7
