Freeman is a scientist who works at the intersection of biology and technology. He wants to understand how biological systems work and to use that understanding to benefit both human health and the design of intelligent systems. In his career, Freeman has done both hands-on science and has worked to understand and accelerate how science is practiced.

Freeman studied computational vision in graduate school at New York University, led a neuroscience research lab at Janelia Research Campus, and, most recently, joined the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to help develop their efforts at the interface of technology and science. Freeman is passionate about open source and open science and bringing scientists and engineers together across a range of fields.
