Funded by the MouseLight team project, the LVV is a 3D viewer capable of navigating large N x M x P voxel 3D volumes, such as light imagery of a whole mouse brain. With the LVV, users can browse, trace, and annotate arbitrarily large image volumes. To work with a sample, users create one or more workspaces, each of which encapsulates ongoing annotations. Through workspaces, multiple users can either independently work with the same sample, or share annotations by configuring the sharing settings for each workspace. The LVV includes two main viewers: a 2D-oriented viewer with pan, zoom, and z-shift for general browsing and tracing, and a graphically sophisticated 3D viewer. The two viewers are synchronized to permit easy and precise back-and-forth inspection. For tracing, in addition to a suite of manual tools, there is support for semi-automated tracing. Using the LVV, the MouseLight project expects to trace the complete projections of thousands of neurons.
