Biography
Dr. McGowan received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from Clarkson University where he worked on radiofrequency induced hyperthermia with Dr. John Dicello. He received his Ph.D. degree from East Carolina University in non-transcriptional control of gene expression working in the lab of Dr. Philip Pekala. He performed postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University with Dr. Pierre Coulombe where he studied the molecular biology of keratin intermediate filaments. Prior to joining the Scientific Services staff Dr. McGowan worked for two start-up biotech companies; Arete (now Adlyfe) and ExonHit therapeutics. As one of the first employees at ExonHit he was involved in the planning and construction, hiring the scientific staff, as well as developing occupational health and safety programs. He rose to the rank of senior scientist for diagnostic test development.
